How to Obey God

The issue of obedience to God is I’m not sure how to say it. The Lord gave ten commandments to the children of Israel for them to follow and it proved difficult to do. Obeying God’s commands has proven to be a difficult fete for man kind. God wanted man to obey him but with time it proved that man could not obey God. Man is prone to disobedience.

God wanted to draw man back to Himself so He decided He will make a way for man to get back together with Him. God knows we cannot obey His commands on our own strength hence He has made a way for us to be able to Obey.

The First step to Obedience is accepting the free gift of God, Jesus Christ. To be able to Obey God you need to accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You need to recognize that you are a sinner and you need to accept the Lord Jesus sacrifice for you. Take note there is no sacrifice you can give to God, other than to accept the sacrifice already given by Him, & given to you freely.

Second step to Obedience is knowing that once you are born again you are a new creature and the past has been forgiven. Accepting that God has truly forgiven you and by His grace you are in right standing with Him through Jesus Christ. Its not because of anything you did. Don’t condemn yourself again.

Third step to Obedience is accepting that you need divine help to take you through this journey. The truth is you need the Holy Spirit to be with you every step of the way. He is there to teach & guide you, encourage you when it feels difficult to obey, to remind you of Gods teachings and to literally live in you & through you. Accept the Holy Spirit in your life.

Fourth step to Obedience is asking the Holy Spirit to direct you to where you can gather together with others who are born again and learning of the Lord Jesus. Knowing that you need others to walk with you and you to walk with them as you embark on this journey. Asking the Holy Spirit to guide you on how to spend time with God and learn from Him directly.

Fifth step to Obedience is knowing who you are in Christ. Many of us who are born again live in ignorance of who we are. You are a child of the most High God. God is your Father and Jesus is your big brother. You have been adopted into the family of God and you are royalty. Which means as royalty you understand the teachings of God the father, accept His favour and endeavor to live by His teachings. God’s desire is for us to follow His ways.

The Sixth step to Obedience is to know & understand that He loves you so much and is patient with you as you learn His teachings and walk in His ways. You may stumble & fall but He will not condemn you but gently correct you. God desires that you obey Him and He knows you cannot do that on your own. So He has provided you a way out through Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit to guide you. He knows you are not perfect and He will forgive you as you endeavor to Obey Him. This doesn’t give you the green light to disobey Him; there are consequences to every disobedience, living under Grace doesn’t exempt you from those consequences.

The Seventh step to Obedience is to have the faith & heart of a child, Jesus said the Kingdom of heaven is for those who will be like a child. A child believes & trusts what the Father says. A child has faith in what the Lord God has said and their faith does not waiver. They don’t hesitate to ask for what they want or need and believe that when they ask they will get what they have requested. So remember as you take this journey of faith to have a child like faith and obedience that pleases the Lord.  Remember God is your father & He wants you to do well. Despite the circumstances He wants what is best for you.

Do release that you cannot Obey God by your own strength & will. It’s not by might not by power but by my Spirit says Lord. Trust Him, Learn from Him & Obey Him.
